Job Summary:The Assistant Research Professor will lead an independent, externally funded research program while contributing to the university's educational mission. This role involves producing high-impact scholarship, mentoring graduate students, and participating in institute governance. Success is measured by peer-reviewed outputs and grant acquisition.
The Assistant Research Professor will primarily be responsible for conducting research and is expected to develop independent research programs and to engage in the academic and scholarly life of the University through activities such as research, service, and/or student engagement (when aligned with funded scholarly work). The Assistant Research Professor will be funded primarily from external sources and the terms of the appointment are contingent upon available funding. The appointment is for one year with a possibility for renewal depending on satisfactory performance and available funding.
Duties & Essential Job Functions:
1. Conducts independent research; design and execute original research that advances the field.
2. Pursues grant and external funding acquisition; develops grant proposal research goals and seeks sponsored funding by applying expertise in research methods and utilizing specialist knowledge.
3. Serves as Principal Investigator (PI) and as a collaborator with research teams carrying out studies initiated by other faculty and PIs as needed.
4. Collects, compiles and analyzes data; leads laboratory research in a designated department, college, center, or institute that aligns with research and/or degreed background; serves as a technology or equipment expert where appropriate.
5. Writes papers regarding research practices and findings related to the role; disseminates findings in peer-reviewed journals, books, or juried exhibitions.
6. Presents results at seminars and professional meetings to build the reputation of the University.
7. Mentors postdoctoral fellows and junior researchers on research methodologies, protocols, and compliance while aiding in the growth of their grant proposal and publication writing.
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
• PhD in a mathematics or science education or related field
• 2-5 years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent post-PhD research experience.
• Proven track record of scholarly impact, typically demonstrated by a strong publication record and a history of (or potential for) securing external funding.
• Experience working with and in K-12 school environments
Preferred Education & Experience:
• A strong string of publications in top-tier journals.
• Evidence of ability to secure "seed" funding or career development awards

• Skill in scientific writing as demonstrated through peer-reviewed publication.
• Ability to acquire, organize, and analyze accurate data.

• Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students, etc.

• Work is indoors and sedentary and is subject to schedule changes and/or variable work hours.
• This role is an on campus, in-person position.
